Prestige® is Sydney's newest soft leaf buffalo variety, developed for the tough Australian conditions. Windsor Turf are a licensed grower of this Premium Buffalo and are one of a selected few growers in Sydney.   Prestige ® retains excellent cold and drought tolerance and outstanding winter colour.
Prestige® is a slow growing Buffalo that will require minimal maintenance.
Trials have shown Prestige® to be one of the darkest green buffalo lawns on the market. Due to its large, deep root system, it is an efficient water user and stays greener longer in dry conditions, as well as coping with cold and stay green for longer in winter.

A broad leaf variety of lawn, it is easily contained as it only creeps across the surface area (not sub-surface). Prestige® is highly traffic tolerant, including pets, and is extremely resistant to heat and low rainfall. It thrives in both full sun and moderately heavy shade. It can survive in as little as 2-4 hours of sunlight.
Prestige® is a low thatch variety of grass.

Area size(m2) : *

Uses :

Prestige® is great for high volume, heavy traffic areas in home, commercial, full sun and shade situations.

Prestige® is perfect for children, pets and shady areas. It also has excellent cold and drought tolerance as well as high tolerance to grey leaf spot compared to other varieties.

Maintenance :

Mowing your Prestige®

  1. Mow every 7-10 days in the hot months; mow every 3-6 weeks in the cold months.
  2. Mowing height will vary: 2-5cm in sunny/lightly shaded situations; 5-7cm in heavier shaded situations.

Watering your Prestige®

  1. Water thoroughly and regularly after first laying to encourage a deep and vigorous root system (the buffalo grass will be able to fossick for water and therefore be more able to withstand hot dry conditions).
  2. Once the root system has fully established, water thoroughly only when needed-when a slight wilting is visible, usually once every 7-10 days in summer depending on rain events (on sandy soils more often), with much less or no water in cooler months.
  3. Remember that infrequent, deep watering promotes a healthy lawn.
  4. Over watering encourages excessive growth, disease and root rot.
  5. It is best to water in the early morning; night watering is not recommended.

Fertilising your Prestige®

  1. Lawns need to be fed to remain strong and healthy.
  2. It's important to use a slow release fertiliser one month after laying (applying fertiliser before this time has shown not to make a difference to lawn establishment).
  3. Use a complete fertiliser in early April and early September. Twice per year is usually enough, accept in sandy soils at least 4 fertiliser applications per year are needed.
  4. At other times of the year use a slow release fertiliser if the turf needs more growth.eg; Worn areas, pest problems etc. If you need a quick green up, use a fertiliser high in nitrogen to promote a lush green lawn- e.g. Supergreen or organic based slow release fertilisers. In heat of summer avoid over fertilising or using manure based products.

Pests, Weeds and Diseases

Prestige® is more resistant to pests, weeds and fungi compared to some other turf varieties, but as with any natural product,  problems can occur. If these problems occur we recommend the following:

  1. Pests - watch for the lawn grub (e.g. Web Worm or Army Worm) and African Black Beetle- apply suitable pesticides according to directions.
  2. Weeds - if weeds infest, hand eradicate before seed head develops or apply a suitable herbicide (ask your local garden centre). Be particularly careful using herbicides on buffalo varieties as they have more problems with sprays compared to the other types. NB: sprays containing DICAMBA must not be applied to soft leaf buffalo grass
